Worth the read (you won’t find this in American press reporting):
What a wonderful photo of Amy Coney Barrett's family.
Just my opinion, but this is Trump's dream for America.
It's a joy to watch the gumleaves fall,
When the gum trees let them go.
Their important work is over now,
And they drift to the earth below.
They've helped create the nourishment
That's allowed these trees to grow.
They've resisted wind and weather,
And hung on, in the cold and in the snow.
They've given shade, on hot dry days
To the drover camped below.
They've given shelter to our native birds,
Lorikeet, Galah, Kookaburra, Crow.

“Let me be very clear — I might be the first non-Chinese citizen to be targeted, but I will not be the last. If I am targeted, any American or citizen of any nation who speaks out for Hong Kong can, and will be, too. We are all Hong Kongers now.”
"The War Over Being Nice" (2018)
This article discusses the culture war that has been going on.
I think the author goes too far in trying to associate the two cultures they describe with gender. And doesn't go far enough to assert that people are the only ones who can be responsible for their own feelings.
It's nice though to see someone who obviously came from a more progressive line of thinking actually have some self-awareness.
“The art and exercise of self-governance require active participation by every American.”
Time to Act 🇺🇸
Is this for real? 😡
San Fransisco boarding homeless people in Hilton and Continental hotels meant for front-line health care workers...
And supplying them alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana... on taxpayer dime.
...at least four public OD fatalities.
...and everyone involved is under non-disclosure under threat of fines and/or jail time to not talk about what's going on.
This is beyond insanity. I can't believe people in California let this slide.
We wanted to let the people know that it was the State who had to adjust the belt and not the individuals, because when this is over, it is not the State that rescues the population, it is the individual who turns on the engines, with the assistance of infrastructure, with the assistance of the communications networks, and with all that the State gives him, but it is the individual that ignites the engines stronger and will move forward.
This is Uruguay's President. I'll translate for everyone here who doesn't know spanish.
What You Can't Say (2004)
An essay on moral fashions.
"What scares me is that there are moral fashions too. They're just as arbitrary, and just as invisible to most people. But they're much more dangerous. Fashion is mistaken for good design; moral fashion is mistaken for good. Dressing oddly gets you laughed at. Violating moral fashions can get you fired, ostracized, imprisoned, or even killed."
Seems very relevant today.
