I have the newest in compression fashion....the UnaBoot! Great news! No signs of infection and as I get the fluid away from my legs, the pain I have while walking will alleviate. Low sodium + high protein = no pain. I am learning so much! I love it!

@KodiakIsland I have diabetes type 2 and not always following directions got me in trouble with a leg ulcer. Eating too much salt and fast food made it form and it’s one of those things where a high glucose level in the blood makes it worse and hard to heal. The end result can be amputation. So changing diet, a round of antibiotics for a month and using 10% Bacitracin made a big difference. I am like a kid so I love talking about what I am learning about my journey of type 2.

@SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland go low carb. My spouse and I got off our meds and lost 65 lbs each.

@LTGSevenTen @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland

My hubby has Type 2 Diabetes and we also try to eat low carb—mostly chicken or fish and veggies. We both watch the sugar and salt. Exercise also helps a lot. We walk and use exercise bike—anything to burn that sugar.

@SandyisGettingSteamed @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland actually you should eat more fat and if you prepare your own food, you should increase your salt ie electrolytes. Home cooking uses far less salt than store bought items. This isn't a criticism, just my take. Lots of info in the SAD (standard american diet), which is killing us slowly. I stay 20 grams or less of carbs a day.

@LTGSevenTen @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland

Sounds like you have it covered. We feel better eating fewer carbs—not so sluggish.

@SpiceOfOurLife @SandyisGettingSteamed @LTGSevenTen @KodiakIsland

I have Diabetes 2 that was getting out of control a few years back. I managed to talk my way in to a Doctor run study on learning to control Diabetes. Only 4 months, very strict diet. Meats, veggies, limited fruit & hard cheese, 70%+ dark chocolate. Avoided most grains, carb heavy foods.
Lost 50 pounds (no extra exercise), A1C wemt from 8.0 to 5.8.
This recipe I developed kept me on track. Replaced a meal (or 2). Magic Muffins:

@Bunniesmommy @SpiceOfOurLife @LTGSevenTen @KodiakIsland

Good for you for bringing your A1C down so much. I will have to try the muffin recipe. Thanks.

@Bunniesmommy @SandyisGettingSteamed @LTGSevenTen @KodiakIsland This is great! My a1c was 9 last time and my next testing of fasting glucose I hope is much lower!

@SpiceOfOurLife @SandyisGettingSteamed @LTGSevenTen @KodiakIsland
Good luck!
One important tip the Doctor shared was to divide your weight by two then try to drink that many ounces of plain water each day.
Be sure to read labels carefully, sugar is added in the most unexpected places.
I use plant based sweeteners like Stevia and Monkfruit.
I found Paleo and Keto recipes tend to work best. Just type what I want to eat in a search engine with Paleo or Keto and can frequently find a version.

Here's a favorite website:

Wide range of recipes for anyone. Also a Baking Basics link on the homepage with information on sugar and flour substitutes.

@LTGSevenTen @SandyisGettingSteamed @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland Good advice. If you are going to eat carbs, make sure they are whole grain. Sugar in bread is often ignored, so go with brands like "Ezekial Bread", which, except for their raisin breads, is all sprouted grains and zero sugar.

@LTGSevenTen @SandyisGettingSteamed @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland We should ALL stay away from processed and refined foods. Also, while not all organic foods are necessary, there are certain ones we should all buy: strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, peaches, pears, cherries, grapes, celery and tomatoes. These are worth spending the money on for organic products.

@wziminer @LTGSevenTen @SandyisGettingSteamed @KodiakIsland Amen! Getting more away from the processed food, especially the salt content in it is bad.

@wziminer @LTGSevenTen @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland

I don’t buy organic as much as I should. I have had the Ezekial bread and it is good. This is what our daughter usually buys.

@SandyisGettingSteamed @LTGSevenTen @SpiceOfOurLife @KodiakIsland The produce I listed are the most important products to buy Organic. Most organic stuff is overrated. These are the products that will give you the most bang for the buck.

@wziminer @LTGSevenTen @SandyisGettingSteamed @KodiakIsland That is good advice! I have been getting my pasta in whole grain. More fiber and you can make it moister by adding peeled zucchini to your tomato sauce. I also like to add tomatoes to my sauce.

@wziminer @LTGSevenTen @SandyisGettingSteamed @KodiakIsland More tomatoes the better in that they have more Lycopene. Never have to worry about prostate cancer anyway with 🍅tomatoes!🍅

@SpiceOfOurLife @wziminer @LTGSevenTen @KodiakIsland

I too add extra tomatoes to my sauce. You can also use spaghetti squash instead of pasta. Just cut squash in half length wise, scrape out the seeds and roast in the oven. You can then spoon the sauce right into the squash halves and eat.

@JM Thank you! I’m so excited about what is medically possible that I can’t stand it!😊❤️ Not looking for extra attention but if I can help anyone else with these experiences, it’s all good! I’ll be dancing in my UnaBoot tonight!

@bjssunshine Thank you! So many people have type 2 and I’ve been reading their experiences on the internet. Saudi Arabia is gaining so many cases because like us, we went from an agrarian society to an industrial to a white collar economy, but our diets never changed with it. So now we have to relearn eating habits.

Completely understand! I was diagnosed type 2 about 30 yrs. ago, right after I started teaching. Have probably, like you, read everything that is available. People without it do not understand since most "look" healthy, all the damage is going on inside.

Yes, but there have been so many insights and medicine from research that has improved the diagnosis. Fifty years ago was pretty much the final notice. Just got to have faith.

@bjssunshine Definitely! The changes since back then have been amazing!

@SpiceOfOurLife Used to work for a wound care doctor. It's amazing what they do now.Best of luck to you as you heal.

@SpiceOfOurLife I worked for a podiatrist that specializes in diabetic wound care. I used to help apply Una boots

@Give_Me_Liberty It’s great! I thought it might be uncomfortable in hot weather, but I really like wearing it.
